Origin of Valentine's Day

Posted by Nina Robinson at Sunday, January 30, 2011
Valentine's Day is coming soon. Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14, every year. I researched the origin of Valentine's Day and why we celebrate it today.
The day was originally named Saint Valentine's Day, to celebrate love and companionship through gift giving, flowers, greeting cards, chocolate, dinner for two and special time alone with their significant other.  The actual day chosen to celebrate really doesn't  have a significance to the story and no one knows why the day was chosen to be celebrated every year. Some believe that the day is celebrated in the middle of February as a reminder of Valentine's death. The special commerative day was named after a Christian man named Valentine, who was executed because he wouldn't convert from Christianity to Catholicism. He was jailed and right before his execution, he had written his first love letter and it was signed, "From your Valentine."

What does Valentine's Day mean to you and your significant other ?
